2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 12

It looks like there are some good deals at Walgreens again this week!  For those of you who may be new to Walgreens, check out Wild for Wags for some coupon match-ups and deal ideas.   A new site I like to visit is I Heart Wags.  This site gives previews of deals that are coming up in the next few weeks!  What a great resource, especially for those who like to order coupons online in advance.

After being inspired by my sister-in-law's new couponing blog, especially the  Couponing 101 post that touched on where to find coupons, I placed my first-ever online coupon order!  When that arrives, I will attempt a second trip to Walgreens for their great Trident, Reach toothbrush, Almay makeup, and Suave lotion deals.  I am excited.

2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge - Week 11, Trip 2

I just have to say...if you have never experienced a trip to Walgreens with Register Rewards, you are really missing out.  There are some great deals out there!  That is one purpose of this whole challenge: To help others see that you do not have to pay much for essentials...or even some "wants"!  It just takes some time and energy.  :)

My second trip to Walgreens was more successful, and I was able to purchase everything that had been out of stock on my first trip.  Of course, in making two trips, my Register Rewards didn't line up as perfectly as I had planned.  But I am still pleased with how the week turned out!

I received my rebate from Finesse this week, so that has been added back into my totals.  Yay!  However, I have not attempted to cash the check yet.  They misspelled my name.  I'm hoping the bank will still cash it, but we'll see!

2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 6

I had a successful Walgreens outing this week!  I am very pleased with my purchases...first, because my savings percentage is so much better than previous weeks...but also because I did not spend much time planning this trip.  I was able to calculate costs and coupon amounts, etc in the store while I shopped.  Also, I found the Right Guard body wash that had a peelie on it!  Score!  Though, when I got it home and put it in the cupboard, I realized my husband has quite a stash of body wash.  It seems they always have good deals on men's body wash but not women's.

2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 5

I made two trips to Walgreens this week (as evidenced by the pictures).  I was disappointed in my first trip, because they counted my store coupon in my coupon total, and I was not able to use all the RRs I had planned to use.  This was a Walgreens I do not normally visit.  I have never had trouble with "my" Walgreens in the past.

I was able to build up my RR stash for the coming week, and I see a few potential deals in the Walgreens Ad, so I am hoping next week's percentage saved will look a lot better!

By the way, the Tom's of Maine toothpaste I bought a few weeks ago is disgusting.  Do not buy it.  It made me gag, and it went in the trash after one use.

2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 4

I did not spend any money at Walgreens this week.  I had a good list, but when I went to the store, they were out of the fish oil tablets I wanted to get.  I even had the guy check the stock room.  These were the tablets with a mail-in rebate, and I had a coupon, so it was actually going to be a $2.00 moneymaker in the end.  It wasn't worth the money to buy anything else this week.  It was also snowy that day and I had my daughter with me, so I didn't want to venture down the road to the other Walgreens to check their stock.

This week is looking pretty good!  Check out Wild For Wags for some Walgreens deals and coupon matchups!

2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 3

I messed up this week.  :(  For some reason, I thought that I had $6.00 in Register Rewards from last week, but I only had $4.00.  My purchase would have been perfect if I had had 6!  Bummer.  My only consolation is that I ended up with more Register Rewards than when I began.

2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 2

As I prepared for my trip to Walgreens this week, I redid my list about 5 times.  I know they would end up being "free" after Register Rewards, but did I really need to purchase Pill Glide and Gummy Vitamins that my family would not use?  Was the Acai Berry supplement really a wise investment while I am pregnant and trying  to be cautious about what I am putting into my body?  After much consideration, for this year-long challenge I have resolved to purchase only items that my family (or others I know of prior to going to the store) will use.  That resolution seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes the lust of "how much can I get for my money" gets the best of me.

I believe this is the least I have ever spent out of pocket at Walgreens.  I was so excited.  Even more exciting to me was the fact that all of my purchases were food items, which meant NO SALES TAX!  I have never experienced that at Walgreens either.  I did two transactions in order to maximize my RRs, and the first transaction actually totaled 0.  That is another thing that has never happened to me before.  Can you sense my excitement?!  Here is this week's run-down:

4 Kellogg’s Special K (purchased in 2 transactions to print 2 RRs)

2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 1

This is week 1 of the 2011 Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge.  For those of you who did not follow as I did this on the Frugal Farleys site, the idea is simple:  See how much you can purchase at Walgreens for 100 dollars (or less) in one year's time, using coupons, sales, and Register Rewards.  I got this idea from a blog that ended their challenge due to being in a Walgreens Rewards test area.  I contacted the blogger, who said I was free to use her idea and host my own challenge!

So...who wants to join me?!  Send me a message if you would like to participate.

Here is an example of savings you can find at Walgreens.  (Visit the sidebar on the right:  Walgreens Challenge for examples from last year.)  My deals were not that great this week, since I was beginning with 0 register rewards.  Next week will be better!

Merged Blogs

I finally did something I have been thinking about for awhile now:  I merged my two blogs.  Now all the content from my "Frugal Farleys" blog is available on this one.  This news really isn't all that exciting, considering I have not updated the Frugal Farley blog in a few months.  However, I do plan to restart my Walgreens Challenge in January, and I plan to post my deals on here every week.

What is the Walgreens Challenge?  It is a challenge to see how much stuff you can purchase at Walgreens in one year's time for 100 dollars or less.  I participated for a few weeks last year, but I gave up after awhile because I did not seem to be getting the deals I wanted.  (My cupboard was stocked full of free contact solution and toothpaste.)  I am ready to start again in the new year.  Is anyone else up for the challenge?  Let me know, and I will get you the details!

More details to come!

Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 8 *Edited in purple*

I had a little difficulty again with totalling things up before I got to the register.  I usually do that at home before I go, to make sure my pre-tax total allows me to use all my Register Rewards.  For some reason, I didn't do that at all today - not before I left, and not at the store.  That resulted in a few trips back to the school supply aisle while the nice cashier waited to ring up my stuff and then say "sorry, still need more".  She was very nice about it.  It's a good thing they're not usually busy when I'm there!

Here's this week's rundown:

(2) Kellogg's Special K
Price: $2.50 each
MFG Coupon: $1.00

Walgreens 100 Dollar Challenge: Week 6

I skipped week 5.  I could not justify purchasing anything, because I did not have good coupon match-ups, and there were not very many good RR deals going.  I considered using the $5.00 coupon for Neutragena and doing the rebate that they had going, but I could not justify that either.  After looking at the product, I realized it was something I would never use.  Perhaps I could have given it to someone else...but I would still have to front that money out-of-pocket.

On to this week.  I did two transactions today.  I spent more out of pocket than I wanted, but I built up my dwindling RR stash!

I actually went to two stores on Monday, but I haven't had time to input the information until today.  I wish Walgreens was a little closer.  They have some really good 4-day sales this weekend, but it is about a 30-minute drive to get to Walgreens.  Not exactly frugal to be running out 2-3 times a week!  So here is what I got on Trip 2 on Monday:
